S.C.C.A Summerleague
The USC team plays under the umbrella of the Southern California Cricket Association (SCCA) which falls under the South West Region of the USA Cricket Association. Its popularity has only grown ever since, not only in the domestic circuit but also internationally. The SCCA not only attracts youngster's learning how to play the game at a competitive level but also international stars like Franklyn Rose, Gary Crocker etc. who play for various club teams in the SCCA. The SCCA holds various tournaments during the course of the year, the most notable being the LA open 20-20 cup which attracts major stars from the international scene to come and compete for the title. The 2007 LA open was a huge success and it had 12 teams from around the world participating. Teams from New South Wales, Trinidad & Tobago , India etc were a part of this. Amongst the notable cricketers who took part in this tournament were Virinder Sehwag, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Mohammad Azharuddin, Nikhil Chopra, Rohan Gavaskar, Richie Richardson, Stuart Willams etc. From the USC team, Tarun Tyagi and Rishab Nanda played for the California team in the competition.
The SCCA also holds its annual rivalry games against other regions in the USACA, most notably against the Northern California Cricket Association. In 2008 we had Tarun Sandhu from USC represent Southern California in this tournament, Tarun Sandhu was also chosen as the MVP of the tournament. The SCCA U-19 team had USC's Sharan Sharma and Nikhil Puri featured in the premier teams. In March 2009 the SCCA had its Cricketer's for peace and Solidarity Event, in which five players from USC were invited to participate for this charity event.
Apart from these tournaments, the SCCA holds its Summer League Championship Trophy, which is a 40 over format of the game. Each team plays 8 other teams in its division and the top 2 teams at the end of the season get promoted to the higher division. The summer season starts from April every year and concludes in October, following which the top teams compete for the Playoff Championships.
Winterleague
The Southern California Winter League (SCWL) was formed in fall 2002 with four teams with a common vision: to provide recreational opportunities to encourage and develop youth cricketers as well as an arena for regular players to keep fit during the "off season". (a limit set by the league organizers despite high interest) playing in two divisions.Despite the rapid growth, SCWL remains committed to its roots - to allow young players and teams to gain experience, enhance their skills in an environment that promotes sportsmanship and discipline. In its short history, the SCWL has been a pioneer in the development of cricket in the Southern California area. In 2006/2007 the SCWL introduced day/night matches to its 25 over tournament. Over 15 day/night regular matches were played during league play - a first anywhere in the United States.
The SCWL follow up their banner year by introducing the 20/20 format to tournament play in the 2007-2008 season. USC won the 2006-07 version of the Winter League and had a perfect season and did not lose any game during the season. In the 2008-09 season, USC made its way to the semi-finals before losing out to the eventual champions, the Lankan Lions.
UCI Challenge Cup
The University of California, Irvine plays host to this prestigious inter-collegiate championship which involves the best cricket playing school's in Southern California.
The tournament is held in the Spring Semester every year. The tournament is held in the 25 over format and attracts teams from USC, UC San Diego, Cal Poly etc.
USC has so far managed a PERFECT record since the beginning of this tournament 3 years ago and has never lost a game in this tournament.
With the increasing awareness of cricket in California, the number of participating teams and players has increased many fold over the recent years.
